About My Topic

- My topic is about Child Abuse
- This issue interest me because there is a lot of kids under the age of 4 dying of parents or guardians abusing or neglecting them. And it just gets me very angry how people can get away with doing this and it needs to be stopped.
- I want people to learn that child abuse is bad and information on how to stop it because most of the kids that go through this don't do anything bad to get hit in the first place. And that this scars them for the rest of their life.
- This issue needs to be addressed because like I said before because kids are dying and don't even get to live half their life.

Reflect on Game Idea

  • WHO are you designing your game for? This game is for kids that are being abused or neglected at home or any where else. This could also be for people that know somebody in this situation and could help them.
  • WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? My game will teach people how tell if a child is being abused or neglected ( like the signs of it happening ), it will also teach people how to stop child abuse.
  • WHERE does your game happen? My game will be taken place at school and at little kids homes where the action is taking place. It will add to the learning experience because it will show that this can happen anywhere.
  • HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic? It will help they be aware of whats happening at home or any where else.
  • WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz? Its better than a quiz because the game is visual and it will give information as you are playing the game.

Civics: National Politics

My thoughts about this campaign video was that it was really strange! First of all why would this guy "Block" be on this campaign video ad and not Herman Cain? He isn't the person running for president. Then why would you show someone smoking on a presidential ad?! Then he says," get the United States back", like were we held under hostage? I don't think so. And the end of this ad was so wierd, him and that really creepy smile like 'ewww... Get away!'

March of the Penguins

What challenges do the penguins have to overcome?

They have to overcome the challenge of starvation and predators.

How does their habitat challenge their livelihood each day?
On some days its super cold and others its not as cold, and then there could be a big snow storm.

What types of adaptions do penguins need in order to survive brutal winters and predators?

They need to all stick together because in the cold they can keep each other warm and if a predator comes to attack them, they can all fight them off.

Why is there a period of time in which there is practically no sunlight? How does this effect the climate?

Its because they are so far up in the south pole, the sun can't always shine all the way there.

Why is it important that the ground be frozen solid during the moths of breeding?

If the ground isn't frozen solid while breeding the little baby penguins could fall through the ground and into the water and die.

How could climate change negatively impact the mating ritual of the Emperor Penguins?

The climate change could negatively impact the mating ritual because the weather could make the ice start melting and the sea water would rise. With no ice they would dire and eventually become extinct.

Game Review

While going to the wiki reviewing game genres and topics, I have learned which topics it would and wouldn't work out while creating an educational or social issue game. If you are creating an educational or social issue game it would probably wouldn't be the best idea to make your game genre on sports and racing. It is very hard to think of a way to incorporate education or social issues into it. It would probably be much better and easier to make an action, adventure, or strategy game. Some of the game features that stood out to me were how in some games the main character's limbs such as arms and legs, were moving.

Mini Game

In Globaloria we had to make a mini game. We had to do 7 steps and upload everyone to our Wiki Projects Page. Making the game it self, wasn't hard. But the coding was confusing. Instead of just adding the codes to the bottom, you had to figure out where to put the coding because sometimes it belongs at the top of the whole code and sometimes you were just adding it to the bottom of everything. When I was putting in the first part of the code, my carrot wasn't moving at all, I checked everything, but found out it was my clouds in the background that had the coding and that's why my carrot wasn't working. After that incident, everything was smooth sailing and Had no problem with the mini game, making it or uploading it.

-I learned about the events in 2nd grade when the anniversary of 9/11 came again the next year.

2 Single Story 2011

"Danger of a Single Story"

What does it mean to have a 'single story' about a place or community?
To have a single story means that you are bias or prejudges to a place, person, or thing without having any information about it.

Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?
People assume that East Austin is very "ghetto", or there is a lot of trouble happening there everyday. East Austin isn't ghetto or dirty like everyone says, its just like any other city in Austin. People could get information by visiting here or talking to someone they know that lives in East Austin and ask them how its like.

Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community?
I've heard that downtown Austin area is very dirty and loud, but really it is not dirty or not as loud as everyone thinks it is. People could get information by driving by or visiting downtown.

How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community?
It could let them experience the stories about theses places or communities because it would give true information because the game inventor would have to do research to make the game as real as is can be.

iCivics In this web site it teachs about civics. You can play games about your community and how you can change it or make it better. It also teaches us about how the goverment works and the way the system works when they do certain things and procedures. The thing I liked about the website are the games because each and every game teaches us something in our community and how it works and how we can change it.

Image retrived from geeky-gadgets.com - Nintendo 3DS :

The Nintendo 3DS has real 3D graphics when you take a picture, with no glasses needed. When you play a game, it also comes out 3D. On the Nintendo 3DS it has a 3D depth slider. The 3D depth slider is a switch to make the 3D pictures more powerful or to turn off the 3D images completely and play in 2D. The Nintendo also has a build in motion sensor and gyro sensor so the game system can react to the motion and tilt that the gamers have it moving in, so if the people playing with it are twisting the game system side to side or up and down, the motion sensor on the Nintendo 3DS responds instantly. This game system is in stores now, cost $249.99 and is avaible in colors aqua blue and cosmo black.

If I made a really awesome or cool game, I would try to sell it any possible way I could. If I had to choose a celebrity to the game I made, it would probably be Chris Brown, Taylor Lautner, and Kesha because I love their music and movies they have been in. To market my game I would probably want to be on a really popular talk show or a radio show.

In globaloria class today, we watched a video about the new PSP NPG hand held game system. It looks really cool, it is now a touch screen. Like most electronics, the touch screen is on the front screen. But now the game user can touch the back of the game system to play the game. That is so awesome. It also has 3G wifi and a GPS. I would so get this game system.

Mad Hot Ballroom

What does "teamwork" mean to you?
To me it means to work together and to not let nobody work by themselves.

  • 1994 ballroom dancing was introduced to 5th graders in 2 new york schools

  • today 6000 kids from over 60 schools are in Manhattan, Brooklyn and required a 10 week course

  • here the students at one of the schools have more than one family living in one home

How do you see these students trying to work together? These students work together by dancing with each other and trying to make each other better then what they were before

  • When people learn new things it opens new opportunities in the future
  • All of the kids are nervous about the compotion

How important was teamwork for these students?
Teamwork is very important to these students because if they want to win the compotion, they are all going to have to work very hard at practice and work together.

What do you think is the main message that these students should take away from this experience?
To work together and work hard and as a team. It doesn't matter if you win or loose, you've gotten this far, and it shows you are good at soimething.

How will you work together with your teammates in this class?
If a classmate needs help, you help them out and that is working as a team.

The video that we saw today was about a game that you have to create as you play. You have to use a pen to create objects to get the ball to the star. If you don't want the objects you made or if they don't work you can double click on them and they will disappear.

Google Science Fair

We were watching a video in class about Google hosting and international Science Fair. I think its pretty cool that Google is hosting this because everyone uses Google to find information and with this even more poele will be using Google.
If I were to enter the Science Fair, I would probably focus it on robotics so I can make a robot that picks up trash on the floor, so it doesn't end up in our drinking water.
